Ice Mermaid

Image
Ice Mermaid A Salt for Air Novella Written by: M.C. Frank Ice Mermaid is a short and sweet story of learning to love. While she does not like the title, Darius gives Lorelei the name Ice Mermaid as a perfect representation of her heart. While her heart starts frozen, Darius's example of love and sacrifice in the tragedy of the sinking of the Titanic starts that frozen heart melting. This novella is a well-written story that interweaves Greek mythology with other tales of lore. The setting of Poseidon's home and the sinking of the Titanic contrast well as the story progresses between the different scenes. It is a perfect little mermaid story for a short, thought-provoking read.

To Die Upon a Kiss

To Die Upon a Kiss A modern retelling of Othello Written by: Debra Chapoton To Die Upon a Kiss tells the story of tragedy and informs against the ill-fated trends of jealousy and revenge. Olivia and Devon have a love strong enough to fight the unjust system they live in but not strong enough to withstand the rumors of cheating and unfaithfulness. Olivia's minion, Cat, manipulates all those underneath Olivia to enact her revenge on Olivia for perceived errors of the past. Cassandra and Whitney, other underlings, are all influenced by the jealousy Cat encourages. Each of these characters play their part well in the story of Othello. This retelling of Othello has great ideas but struggled with implementation. Chapoton stuck close to the Shakespeare tragedy while pulling the story into the future dystopian America. The story goes back and forth between 4 or 5 different time periods and several different character perspectives. While the author created a world worthy of the Ot

The Dear Wife

The Dear Wife More Than a Wife Series- Book 3 Written By: Jennifer Peel Avery Decker in The Dear Wife embodies the woman I want to be. Her story really begins in book one of the More Than a Wife series but in page one of her own book, she stands up for herself in all of the little ways that matter. Avery opens herself up to family, get the support she needs, create boundaries, and all of this while being a mother to two teenage boys and finding a fulfilling career for herself.  Don't get me wrong, while this story shows Avery's process of growth and self-discovery, it is truly is a book of redemption, reconciliation, and true forgiveness for heart-breaking betrayal. While not all marriages are meant to survive what Avery and James go through in this story, the strength of their love and character shines through. Jennifer Peel's stories are a must-read and this one shines brighter than the rest. While the topic is heavy and made me cry, Jennifer weaves the story

Hunter

Hunter A Valiant Novel: Book 1 Written by: Joanna White Hunter is a story that gives The Maze Runner a run for its money. As a dystopian novel that pushes the characters to new limits in a depressing game of cat and mouse, it brings the whole world to life. The reader is drawn into the world and worries with the characters about who is going to survive and who the hunters will take next. Jared is stunned as he underestimates the new prisoner, Dalex. The arrival of this prisoner changes Jared's whole world, starting with his perception of those he hunts. Joanna White patterned her novel after the biblical story, Moses, in an almost realistic way while creating a full dystopian world. From start to finish, this story created an intensity that kept bringing me back for more.

Nanny for the Billionaire

Image
Nanny for the Billionaire Billionaires of Manhattan Written by: Jenna Brandt Jenna Brandt took the start of something good in Waiting on the Billionaire and turned it into something great in Nanny for the Billionaire. Celeste is a selfless character who finds her way to forgiving Roger for his richie and rude lifestyle as he finds his road for redemption. As Roger finds God and turns his life around, he is able to make amends for his family, his son, and his part in the family company. These two characters have the perfect billionaire romance. While they have their struggles that money cannot fix, they are able to realistically enjoy the pleasures that being rich have to offer. Jenna Brandt made Celeste a down-to-earth woman who is not influenced by oodles of money and stands up for herself and those she loves. The whole story pulls the beauty of Christianity into a fun romance. This was fun listen.

Running From Fate

Running From Fate Everyone has secrets Written by: Margaret Todd Running From Fate is a unique shapeshifter story told of a woman who rejects tradition due to tragedy and fights the draw of the man who bring her back to the fold. The story pulls in the reader from start to finish, wanting to know how Avery takes the place of Alpha and finds her one true love. Maragret Todd wrote a beautiful story that pulls in the reader despite overtly formal language and more telling than showing. The story races along with the beauty of Canada and the allure of fantasy. Maragret created a world that seems real. "I arrived at the water to admire the beauty the place had about it. It was almost as it was out of amagical story it was so beautiful...I investigated the area mesmerized but its beauty... It was just so beautiful and peaceful here. I almost didn't want to leave."

Catching Coy

Catching Coy Love in Little River - Book Two Written by: Ranee Clark Catching Coy has become one of my favorite books. Ranee Clark merged the perfect 'Bachelor' story type without it being a complete game show. They had the perfect meet cute that I could see them telling their children. While their romance started during one of the most inconvenient moments possible, they were able to forge a relationship despite all the people rooting against them. This was such a sweet book to read that I couldn't wait to finish it. I absolutely loved Catching Coy.

Waiting on the Billionaire

Image
Waiting On The Billionaire Billionaires of Manhattan Written by: Jenna Brandt Waiting on the Billionaire is an iconic billionaire romance. It has everything I would want from an easy chick flick read. The characters had a meet cute and it was fun to hear about their adventures in love. While each adventure reminded me of other billionaire romances, the waitress scene gave new ideas to similar stories. It was perfect for one of those stories to just listen while doing other things. Jenna Brandt did a great job interweaving a cute story with great Christian themes.
